Slovenia National Day (1991)

Following WWI, Slovenia formed a federation with Serbia and Croatia that in 1929 became Yugoslavia. In 1991, Slovenia declared its independence from Yugoslavia on the same day as Croatia—after elections in 1990 showed that 88 percent of the people wished to secede. Tano Festival (Dano-nal) (2020)

An ancient spring agricultural festival in Korea, the Tano Festival started as a planting ritual and a time to pray for a good harvest. Festivities in the countryside include swinging contests for girls, while boys and men take part in ssirum, native Korean wrestling, a sport that can be dated to 400 CE. Today ssirum matches are nationally televised. In the east coast town of Kangnung, the festival goes on for nearly a week.
