Saraswati

Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of wisdom, learning, and the arts. As the goddess of knowledge both earthly and divine, she is considered to be the "Mother of the Vedas," the oldest scriptures in Hinduism. She is also the consort of Brahma, creator of the universe. She is usually depicted wearing all white and is either seated on a lotus or riding a swan. Unlike some goddesses—such as Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth—Saraswati is depicted with modest clothes and little jewelry. Why? More...

What legends about the slide arose in its aftermath and continue to persist today? More...

During a 1967 performance, Terrell collapsed on stage and was discovered to have a brain tumor. Despite several operations, Terrell died at the age of 24, and Gaye took a lengthy hiatus from performing. Whose vocals were rumored to have replaced Terrell's on her final album with Gaye? More...

Feast of Ridvan (2021)

The Feast of Ridvan is a Baha'i celebration to commemorate a 12-day period in 1863 when the Baha'i founder, Baha'u'llah (which means "Glory of God"), made the declaration that he was God's messenger for this age. When he made his declaration, Baha'u'llah was staying outside Baghdad, Iraq, at a garden he called Ridvan, meaning "Paradise." The first, ninth, and 12th days of the period (April 21, 29, and May 2, respectively) are holy days when work is suspended. The celebration starts at sunset, April 20, the eve of Ridvan. More...
