Thermobaric Weapons

Also known as fuel-air explosives, thermobaric weapons are considered to be as devastating as some nuclear weapons. Whereas most conventional explosives contain a mixture of fuel and oxygen, thermobaric weapons can hold more fuel because they rely on oxygen from the surrounding air. Theiler's development of a safe and effective vaccine brought yellow fever under control, earning him the 1951 Nobel Prize in medicine. On what did he initially test his vaccine? More...

It also ordered it to be a day of national fasting.
