In 1954, Tonight debuted with 32-year-old Steve Allen hosting. The humorous late-night talk show came to occupy a prominent place in American television and has aired for more than 50 years, usually on weeknights. Some of its longer-running hosts have included Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, and Jay Leno, each backed by house musicians. The son of a Florentine banker, Cosimo de' Medici was an able financier who vastly expanded the family's banking business. In 1433, he was banished from the city by a rival family but returned a year later. With the support of the people, he became the first of the Medici family to rule Florence. Feast Day of the French Community (2017)

Each of the autonomous regions of Belgium observes its own feast day. Feast Day of the French Community (La fête de la Communauté française de Belgique) is a celebration of linguistic heritage and national independence. It largely takes place in the Walloon cities of Namur, Liege, Huy, and Charleroi, and is a public assertion of the linguistic and ethnic rights of French speakers. Free Bus Passes for Seniors Pay Off

In 2006, England introduced a program offering free bus passes to seniors, but budgetary concerns could soon bring the program to a screeching halt. However, terminating the program could in fact end up costing the government money. Research shows that senior citizens given free bus passes are more likely to undertake "active travel," defined as walking, cycling, or using public transportation. This, in turn, can reduce the risk of inactivity-related illnesses among the elderly, thereby cutting healthcare costs. More...
