The Pacinian Corpuscle

Pacinian corpuscles are mechanoreceptors found in the skin of the fingers and other parts of the body. About .04 inches (1 mm) long and formed of concentric layers of connective tissue, the small oval bodies are responsible for sensitivity to pressure. In the center of each is a single nerve ending. Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire (2017)

In 1919, the Candy Dance began in the town of Genoa, in northern Nevada, as a way to raise funds to install street lights. This soon became a popular event, attracting dancers from Reno and Carson City to join the fun. More than two tons of candy are now consumed during the dance weekend. In the 1970s, an arts and crafts fair was added to the two-day event. Activities for children include candle-making, face-painting, and tattoos. The Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire, as it is now officially known, provides a substantial part of Genoa's annual operating budget. More...

Painkillers Behind that Killer Headache

As many as a million people in the UK suffer from severe headaches caused by overusing painkillers. These "medication overuse headaches" often trap sufferers in a vicious cycle, as instinctively reaching for more painkillers to treat these headaches only compounds the problem. Overuse headaches tend to become an issue in patients who use pain medication 10 to 15 days a month. Doctors in the UK are currently advised to have patients with such headaches immediately discontinue the use of all pain medications, but this can leave those who also suffer from regular migraines or tension headaches without relief for some time.
