Toothpaste

Though toothpaste as we know it today is only about a century old, dental hygiene has long concerned human beings. The ancient Greeks and Romans cleaned their teeth with abrasive mixtures using crushed bones and oyster shells, a far cry from the hydrogen peroxide-and-baking soda formulas of the 19th century. First Electric Traffic Light Is Installed (1914)

Prior to 1914, there had been several attempts to create automobile traffic signals similar to those used by railroads, but it was only after a four-way electric signal was installed in Cleveland, Ohio, that the modern traffic light system began to take root. Icelandic Festival (2017)

The Icelandic Festival, or Islendingadagurinn, held in Gimli, Manitoba, each year is one of the oldest ethnic festivals in Canada, dating back to 1890. The events include choral singing and cultural and artistic displays. Participants dress in native Icelandic costumes and eat traditional foods such as smoked lamb and skyr, which is similar to yogurt. More...

Gaming in Small Doses Has Benefits for Kids

The adage "Everything in moderation" appears to apply even to video games. A recent study finds that youngsters between the ages of 10 and 15 who spend an hour or less a day playing video games are better adjusted and report more satisfaction with their lives than those who do not play at all, while those who play video games for more than three hours a day are less well adjusted than their peers.
