These days, cell phones do a lot more than just make phone calls, and the Pew Internet and American Life Project explores the ways in which Americans are now using these devices. A number of cell phone owners admitted to taking advantage of one of the less advertised uses of cell phones—their ability to stave off unwanted social contact, which is done simply by pretending to be busy on a call or using the gadget.
