Paul Rusesabagina

Rusesabagina is a Rwandan hotel manager and humanitarian known for hiding and protecting more than 1,200 refugees during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Rusesabagina, who worked at the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, Rwanda, used his influence and connections as manager of the hotel to shelter Tutsis from being slaughtered by the Interahamwe militia. Charles Goodyear Granted Patent for Vulcanization (1844)

Goodyear was the inventor of vulcanization, a process that makes rubber harder, less soluble, and more durable. Previously, rubber products were sticky and volatile, often melting in heat or hardening in cold. He obtained a patent for vulcanization in 1844 but was still badly in debt at the time of his death. Italian comic book author Hugo Pratt spent his early childhood in Venice and moved with his parents to Ethiopia when he was 10. Following WWII, he returned to Italy, but he did not remain there for long. Pratt traveled widely, and his wanderlust is mirrored in his best-known character, Corto Maltese, a roving sea captain and adventurer. CMA Music Festival (2017)

This country feast of music is held over a long weekend in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, also known as "Music City, U.S.A." and the home of the Grand Ole Opry. US Teen Risk-Taking Trends Shift

Teens are not generally known for exercising good judgment, but at least some are exercising better judgment when it comes to certain risky behaviors. The percentage of US teens smoking cigarettes has reached the lowest level in more than two decades, and the prevalence of physical fighting has fallen about 8 percent since 2011. However, a frightening number of teens are texting and emailing behind the wheel. The national Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that more than 40 percent of those who had driven in the past month admitted to having texted while driving. More...
